Certificate Course in Molecular and Human Genetics

Certificate Course in Molecular and Human Genetics

Course Overview

Genetics is an important area of life science with a trans-disciplinary approach requiring close interactions between specialists in various disciplines including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Medicine and Agriculture. Keeping in view the urgent need for developing state-of-the art teaching and research programs in Molecular and Human Genetics. The science of human genetics has been transformed in the past decade. Following the sequencing of the entire human genome, a wealth of resources is now available to researchers aiming to identify the genetic variants that influence human health. These findings will shed light on the underlying molecular pathology of many diseases that are poorly understood at present, eventually paving the way for novel treatment and prevention strategies. The speed at which these discoveries are being made is accelerating, and it is likely that molecular genetics will soon underpin much of modern medicine. Molecular geneticists identify genes associated with specific functions, diseases, and disorders. They identify genetic mutations on a molecular level and establish genotypes to better understand the nature of genetic makeup. Some molecular geneticists work to develop new diagnostic tests based on DNA analysis. The most common activity undertaken by molecular geneticists is identifying the causes of congenital disease and determining what roles environmental conditions play in their development. Their hope is to devise ways to minimize or even eliminate the presence of these disorders in humans. Molecular geneticists use cutting edge equipment and techniques to gather, replicate, and analyze DNA. After testing is complete, they produce reports summarizing their findings and share them with colleagues. By gathering enough information, geneticists can form new understandings and methods for addressing genetic diseases and disorders. Molecular Genetics is the study of the structure and function of genomes, genes and their products at a molecular level. Molecular Genetics is central to understanding the etiology of human disease and its diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.
